Deep ecologists commenting on cornucopias point of view

We as deep ecologists, refuse to accept your arguments because without evidence, you are stating that " It was technology that allowed our survival in the ice age" we can clearly see that chemicals like DDT have damaged our environment and are now heating the planet to a point in which we will not be able to survive, as well as the animals. It is also important to note that although the planet has been warmed, global warming began far after the ice age happened so we do not agree with this statement.

It is essential to balance the consequences of using DDT. We know that DDT is useful in controlling pests but the consequences it brings are far more disastrous. Moreover, nature is in charge of life and death and if people die it might be because Mother Nature wants to find equilibrium between human life and nature. Another clear example that DDT is not an useful resource is that it has affected fishes because they have a membrane that absorbs DDT which causes the interception of biological processes. Birds on the other hand, are not able to survive until they are born because DDT thins the eggshell.

Nature has its natural process and we need to maintain those process and try to not interrupt them and technology is the clear example that the environment has being disturb by the technology development.

Technology also means we are using our national resources faster and we will soon run out of resources. Also although technology has helped humans find more cures to diseases, the amount of pollution created because of this technology is also creating new diseases and different types of sicknesses we don’t know how to treat.

By the use of DDT food chains are affected because at the same time this pesticide benefits humans, other living organisms are affected negatively. Many living organisms as birds, rats and mosquitoes die and suffer. We don’t think that humans have priority to survive and live, all living organisms have the same right to live, and cause of the DDT there are changes that affect a big number of organisms. As a consequence there is an unbalance and loss of biodiversity.
