Chernobyl Disaster according to Deep Ecologist
In Ukraine 1986, a nuclear power plant had an
incident in which a reactor was operated by a vaguely trained person or
adequate maintenance. As a result there was a steam explosion and fire,
releasing 5% of the radioactive reactor core. Looking at graph below we can see
how with this 5% there was a chain reaction creating a huge explosion
impossible to control inside the power plant (world-nuclear.org). There was
nothing else to be done, many workers died that moment but deaths continued to
happen in the following weeks and even years due to the radioactive components
in the air left from the explosion. Even 20 years after the explosion, there
are many people contacting thyroid cancer and many other health problems.
In figure #1 is being
shown the way in which human beings can be affected by radiation trough the consumption
of aliments. At fist all the gases and
radiation go up in the air and they get mix with the clouds but at the same
time humans can inhale these toxins and be affected directly. Once all this
toxins are in clouds trough precipitation water and pants and crops are affected.
Then this contamination affects animals like fishes and cows that are consumed
by humans. Also by water resources that humans also needs they get affected.
All this radiation and contamination has causes thyroid cancer in kids,
teenagers and adults.
The
Chernobyl accident has causes many mortal issues and deaths among the people
that live or were near the accident. Since the accident in 1986 many humans
being had being affected with several sicknesses like cancer, mutations, and
health issues. Being a big impact in
society this accident has caused a big amount of deaths. This situation somehow
has created awareness among people but in countries like Argentina and Iran
their have keep going with this kind of projects causing more vulnerable situations
in the cities. They keep working with this kind of projects and people do not
learn that nuclear energy is not effective and recently an impact in Japan the
nuclear factory got some problems and started to release radiation affecting
people and the environment, but Chernobyl being a more precise example we can
see that is has caused 93,000 deaths thanks to cancer and more of 200,000 have
being affected with any kind of illness. The biggest impact was that this sadly
accident affects more than 4,000 kids and teenagers. But also pregnant women
were affected their child born with mutations and some with brain damage, and
also their health was affected. The most affected of this were children like
the Doctor Igor Vasilevich Komissarenko said: “Children were affected most
because they were growing.” He has being a surgeon that has being be dealing
with thyroid cancer mostly form Chernobyl accident. Also causing genetic
mutations. Among people they have get
to understand that nuclear energy can bring health issues but projects do not
stop from part of governmental decisions but we can say that people are aware
if the situation and what causes it may have. Nuclear energy should not be a
source of energy because it realizes radiation and rather than only affecting
the people who work in that area it affects people on the surroundings. We need
to create more awareness that nuclear energy is not a good source because it
has a long term impact and also radiation affects humans in various ways and is
even worse there is an accident.
The death of all these people was absolutely
unnecessary; the land they have damaged is irreplaceable. Land pays the people
who damage it as they have treated the land, if they destroyed the planet, the
planet will destroy them as we'll. It is only fair that people reconsider the
situation and take this a sign that they must respect the planet and protect
it.
Nuclear energy preleases great amount of
unnecessary radioactive left overs into the atmosphere, people must stop this
process because there is not a perfect way of producing additional energy, the
planet has given us everything, why do humans have this ambition to have more
energy?
The Chernobyl disaster released “100
times more radiation than the atom bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima”
(new.bbc.co.uk). The disaster affected Chernobyl, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.
Many years after the accident radioactive effects still remain as well as
contamination with cesium and strontium, which remain in the soil for many
years (new.bbc.co.uk)
What is the effect of a disaster like Chernobyl
to the environment? Humans are not conscious of the relationship we play in our
world. We are not the rulers or the owners of our planet; we live in a mutual
relationship with the environment. Nature’s purpose is not to serve humans,
since humans are just another specie among others, we are not superior in any
way (judibari.org) Species can live, grow and flourish as they want since they
are not dependent to humans. We must understand the level of importance
biodiversity has on our life and our survival. Chernobyl disaster not only affected
humans but changes in climate, wildlife and plant life were disrupted
too.(alma.edu). We must understand that whatever happens to the environment
will affect us too because we are all connected and we live on a planet as a
whole.
Chernobyl nuclear basement accident has
caused a large impact trough the years lasting the effects until the present
days. Even though the accident occurred more than 25 years ago, there are
notable effects nowadays. For example looking at people, little boys that are
born are affected with mutations causing also death problems. The world doesn't need additional energy, the
energy we need is already provided by Mother Nature. The additional production
of energy cause a disequilibrium in the planet, causing exploitation of resources,
only negative effects on every single living organism. Although the direct
effects are all negative, there is also a point to consider in the long run;
after the incident people will look at the sacrifice of all those people's
lives, and understand that we are causing disequilibrium, we are damaging the
world unnecessarily. People's death is the only way to make people understand
that we do not own the planet; the planet owns us and we must respect it. The
damage that we create is irreplaceable, we will all die before human race
realizes that the damage is not justified, that we have enough resources. Lets
hope that the sacrifice of all these people, all that sorrow of the people in
Chernobyl, is worth it and they realize that what Mother Nature gives us is
more than enough for human race to survive.

very well supported guys. You provided information and presented your point of view, regarding pos or neg awareness
ReplyDeleteVery interesting analysis on the chernobyl incident. You stated that it happened due to the prescence on untrained persons managing the nuclear plant. Still, you are not taking into consideration that today's nuclear plants are completely safe since they are operated and secured by machines to reduce the human error. The role humans play in the plants now a day is not so big and eventually our place will be taken by machines. When this happen, there will no longer be problems because machines are perfect and do not make mistakes.
