DEEP ECOLOGIST VIEW
COMMUNISM vs. CAPITALISM
Capitalism
and Communism are two ways of government that clearly differ in their
approaches, but in the end are just ways to manage a society. Capitalism and communism are systems that base themselves
pretty much on economics and distribution of goods. Capitalism bases on free
marketing, open competition, etc. What is important to notice on this way of
government is that the government has little or no control in how people use their goods.
In communism, unlike capitalism, the goods are controlled by the government.
Every one posses the same amount of goods and no one is better than the other,
every one is equal. On the other hand, in capitalism, since you are able to
manage your own goods how you want, there are people with more power than
others. These two ways of government differ a lot on the lifestyle their people
have and therefore their impact on the environment. Capitalism is very bad for the
environment, but good for the people since it makes everyone different and have
a chance to succeed. It is a constant struggle for goods and riches among
people. People fight to get more goods ad more money, therefore a better
lifestyle. Unlike Communism, Capitalism allows very expensive and luxurious
lifestyles for those who achieve success. The problem of capitalism is that its
impact on the environment is very bad. Since there is a constant struggle for
power and every one fight for more goods, the demand for products is very big.
Every one demands for more and more products that will allow them to go up in
the social scale. The problem increases as the number of people increases and
capitalism does allow an increase in population. The wild demand for products,
allowed a giant increase in population after the industrial revolution. Before
that, people were not expected to live so long or to exist in large numbers.
The access to food or medicines was not so good and the mortality rate of the
human specie was very big. After the industrial revolution, people had better
access for food and medicines increasing life expectancy, birth rate and fertility
rate of the human specie.
The struggle of capitalism is that it promotes open competition and the demand of products increases.
As the demand of product increases, more people are allowed to live and as more people live, the demand of product increases. It is pretty much a vicious cycle that destroys the whole environment since the explotation of it is limitless and not something to worry for capitalist because their goal is not protect the environment, but to grow economically. Capitalsim is very bad and will in fact destroy completely the environment. If conserving and protecting the environment, is a goal, then certainly communism is a lifestyle people should adopt. In Communism, all the goods of the country are managed by the government and no one is better than the other. There is no competition among people and the demand people have on products is very little. The reduced amount of demand, is a good thing for the environment since the ecological footprint people have, is very little and doesn't really interfere as much on the nature way to function.

This link above is a list of ecological footprints of countries all over the world. Let's take as an example of comparison, cuba, a communist country and Belgium a capitalist country. Cuba has a population of 11.20 million people, but have an ecological footprint of 1.85 gha/pers. On the other hand, belgium who is a capitalist country, has an ecolgical footprint of 8 gha/pers with a population of 10.53 millions.
Clearly, capitalism is a defficient form of government because it will just end up killing the environment. The whole system was made up by persons who clearly never thought the environment was important or limited. The whole system is meant to grow and this growth, unfortunately kills the planet. If we really want a good future and achieve a harmony with nature, then communism is a very good approach. It not only has a very reduced ecological footprint, but kills the whole competitive side of the human side that not only destroys the environment but poisons our soul. As deep ecologist, we understand the great role the environment plays in our life and the importance to preserve it. We understand we as a specie are not better than the rest of the species in the world. Kind of like in communism, we should all share the same amount of resources and no one should be more powerful than the other. We need to adopt communism as a lifestyle because it is a life style that will definately protect the environment by reducing our ecological footprint on our planet.
This graph shows clearly the growth rate increase of the human population. Before the industrial revoultion, the human population didn't increased so fast and it wasn't a big problem for the environment because they were less people. After the industrial revoultion, the growth rate triggered and started growing exponentially having very bad impact on the environment because now there are more people with more demands...

You guys have mentioned a lot facts, of which very few are supported; for example, you have talked about the diff btw capitalisma and communism. Where is your supporting facts? YOu have a graph of increase pop. but where is the info that states that resources are consumed, as population increases? or at least, at what increase rate?
ReplyDeleteThe only supporting argument you have, is about carbon foot print, which by the way, does a really good job in supporting your argument.
